Non-Destructive Digging (NDD)
Toxfree introduced Non-Destructive Digging in 1998 to assist customers in locating underground assets. NDD services are available Australia wide and in all major cities, including Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Adelaide.
High pressure water and air units expose electrical cables, underground pipes and conduits that are considered potential threats to customer projects. This is where non-destructive digging – also known as NDD, comes in.
The benefits provided through hydro vacuum excavation mainly involve the large reduction in risk compared to jack-hammering and drilling. This is because it avoids damaging surrounding materials and provides a major reduction in noise pollution and disturbing the local environment.
Even more importantly, hydro excavating using combo units offers both operators, and customers alike, more safety and therefore more peace of mind. NDD eliminates the time spent fixing damages caused, and raises productivity as a whole, as little to no clean-up is required afterwards.
Potholing of gas, water, sewer and telecommunication lines
Potholing is a technique whereby a small hole is vacuum excavated at the point where the repair or relining of an existing line is to take place. This avoids large trenches, saving both money and time.
Excavating around gas, water, sewer and telecommunication lines
Toxfree provides vacuum excavation services to the construction industry, in early works and where services need to remain in place while work is undertaken. Some examples include; railway level crossing removals, road and pavement building works, and general construction early works hydro excavation.
Straightening of power poles
Strategic hydro excavation of only one portion of soil surrounding a power pole, enables the pole to be straightened, with the foundation then being reinforced without completely removing the pole. Users of this service include power companies, utilities, as well as construction contractors and sub-contractors.
Coring to enable soil samples
Using non-destructive digging for core sampling minimises the risk of cross contamination of a sample that could occur using traditional excavation techniques. This greatly benefits the geotechnical and soil analysis that takes place prior to early works or even post works site remediation.
Tree planting and remediation
In many cases utilities and services such as sewer, telecommunications, power or gas lines exist in the site where trees need to be planted or remediated. To investigate the extent of root invasion without damaging the underground lines, Non Destructive Digging is an ideal and cost effective solution.
All Non-Destructive Digging Units have EPA licenses.
